Living through Emotional Hurricanes

More and more of us experience emotional hurricanes as familiar networks disintegrate, expected turns twist in new confusion and new stressors descend.

Sometimes our bodies are unable to respond in ways we would prefer and sometimes we are expected to show up in ways that don’t feel aligned.

The experience is of a hurricane that seizes our lives and devastates our ecology.

There are many emotional management courses. They focus on individuals and fall under what is called as “personal development.” They often involve self-mastery and exclude our living worlds.

This course opens out the conversation on emotions in a world that is broken. What are emotions? Where do we need to compost and change patterns? And where do we need stay still and learn the tough lessons about our worlds? When is it about personal change and when is it about adaptation of our ecologies? When is it about acceptance and when is it a call for action?

This course, in that sense, is not about self-mastery but wisdom-building to “know the difference” (borrowing from Reinhold Niebuhr’s Serenity prayer), about discriminating-learning-reflecting-adapting-thriving through a world where hurricanes will happen. And it is not so much about success or failure but an embodied observation and softening of eyes.

I invite you to participate in this course whole-body and invite your family and friends to also wade in.

After all, we can’t get through hurricanes alone.
